Kata Scheuring Triumphs in Novi Sad

8 December 2013

The flute student of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music was awarded second prize at the 6th Anton Eberst Flute Competition.

The three-round international flute competition was organized for the sixth time on 28 November-2 December 2013 in Novi Sad, Serbia. The participants aged between 13 and 28 could apply in four categories, wherein Kata Scheuring competed in category C for the oldest applicants. After the first two rounds only six competitors made it to the third and final round – including the Liszt Academy student –, and in the finals held on 2 December Kata Scheuring won the prestigious second place. The young flutist, who is studying under Veronika Oross, was accompanied on piano by Liszt Academy professor József Gábor, who also featured as the official chorus director of the competition.

The same competition in 2012 also brought some great success for the students of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music: Máté Bán earned second prize and Mária Kerner first prize in last year's contest. Thus, it is no surprise that the two flutists of the new Magic Flute production to be premiered on 8 December 2013 in the Sir Georg Solti Chamber Hall will be Kata Scheuring and Mária Kerner.

Our heartfelt congratulations to Kata and her teachers!
