The Bartók World Competition of Composition 2018 is now open for submissions
In 2018 the Bartók World Competition & Festival goes on with the competition of composers at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.
The competition is open for talented composers from all over the world who are aged 40 or under to submit works for solo piano. The award-winning works will be performed at the final Gala Concert on the 25th of November 2018, and will be selected into the repertoire of the next round of Bartók World Competition, that is, the competition of young talented pianists in 2019.
The world competition is built around the most characteristic strands of the Bartók oeuvre, that is, piano, violin, chamber music and composition. The instrumental competitions are completed with musicological symposia and a highly colourful programme schedule dedicated to delight the audience turning the event into a week-long music festival. The individual instrumental competitions are organized every other year, with composer competitions in between, which always tie into the forthcoming instrumental category. The deadline for submissions for the competition of composition is 31st of August 2018. The works for solo piano should give pianists the opportunity to show both their musical and technical skills.
The Bartók World Competition & Festival was launched on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the birth of Béla Bartók and has started with the Violin Competition in 2017. “We created a series of competition which reflects many aspects of the genius of Béla Bartók tying his name distinctly to Hungary and the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. We are deeply honoured to have international acclaimed composers in the jury” – says composer Gyula Fekete the vice rector at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, member of the Board of The Hungarian Composers’ Association and the artistic director of Bartók World Competition of Composition 2018.
Among Gyula Fekete the members of the jury are the Grawemeyer Award-winning British composer Thomas Adés, the Israeli-born composer Chaya Chernowin, the Korean-born and Germany-based composer Unsuk Chin and the popular young Russian pianist Andrei Korobeinikov. The Prize Fund of the competition is 10 000 Euros.
The award-winning works will be performed at the final Gala Concert on the 25th of November 2018 by three esteemed Hungarian performers: János Balázs, widely considered to be an exceptional talented pianist; Balázs Fülei, the head of the Chamber Music Department of Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music and the Liszt Award-winning pianist Dénes Várjon.
