Two New Competition Wins

Mihály Demeniv won first prize at the International Lanciano Accordion Competition and Márton Takáts won second prize at the piano competition organized in Lodz.

Mihály Demeniv, 3rd year BA student at the Liszt Academy of Music, was Hungary's only representative at the International Lanciano Accordion Competition held in Italy between September 23-29, 2013. More than a hundred musicians from all over the world took part in the prestigious competition. Mihály Demeniv – studying under László Ernyei at the Liszt Academy – proved to be the best in the "N" category for accordionists over the age of 18. His competition repertoire ranged from Baroque to contemporary works, including pieces from J.S. Bach, Makkonen, Prokofjev and Angelis, which he played in the finals.

Liszt Academy student Márton Takáts tied for second place at the 1st International Piano Competition "Performance Without Limits" in Lodz, Poland. 90 pianists applied for participation in the 2-round competition held between October 12 – 20, 2013, but only 21 competitors went on to the final round. The mandatory repertoire of the competition program consisted mainly of Chopin's works, as well as a piece of free choice in the first round and a sonata of choice from Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven in the second and final round. There was no age limit in first piano competition entitled  "Performance Without Limits". Márton Takáts, who is studying piano under Attila Némethy at the Liszt Academy of Music, tied for the second prize at the competition.
