This is the response to the many viola jokes: on the one hand, it really is an instrument, and on the other hand, the violist, too, can be a serious figure. For example, excellent as a conductor as well. The question: how modern is ‘modern’, and how classic is old? Suites and symphonies compete from a distance of three hundred light-years.
