Please allow me that, apart from my regrettable ignorance of the Hungarian language, I remain Magyar in my heart and soul from birth to the grave. As a consequence, I earnestly wish to further the progress of Hungarian music.

One of the pinnacles of European church music is Monteverdi's ‘rosary’ dating from 1610 for vespers, the evening prayer of the Feast of Mary in the liturgical calendar. It is an astonishing masterpiece which on hearing seems to transport one to the interior of some imposing cathedral to marvel at both human and divine greatness. The 90-minute Monteverdi composition encapsulates everything that can be expressed in sound. It is a magical blend of sounds, tones, animating rhythms, emotions and moods, a genuine acoustic miracle in which the Baroque master ‘arranges’ the space by dividing the choirs in different directions. For this recital, the Liszt Academy’s Vice-President of Education and professor Csaba Kutnyánszky conducts the university’s mixed choir and the distinguished instrumental ensemble of Hungarian early music led by Balázs Máté.
