Application open for the 5th Éva Marton International Singing Competition
The Liszt Academy, the organizer of the competition – which will be held in early September with prizes totalling 70,000 euros - welcomes applications until April 25. Contestants will perform Liszt songs again this year.
The live rounds of the large-scale and indisputably world-renowned international competition, the semi-finals and the final will take place at the Liszt Academy between September 5-11, 2022. Those interested will be able to follow the competition from all corners the world, as the rounds will be broadcast live online. In addition to the regular awards, a number of special prizes, including concert invitations and scholarships, will be presented to the best competitors.
Ladies aged 18-32 and gentlemen aged 18-35 have until April 25, 2022 the latest to apply for the pre-selection on www.martoncompetition.hu, the official website of the competition. As part of application process, applicants are requested to upload a video recording of an excerpt of an aria or oratorio or cantata of their choice from the Baroque and from another period. Singers must perform the piece accompanied by piano or orchestra. The pre-selection jury, chaired by Éva Marton, will select the contestants that will make it to the other rounds of the competition based on the submitted material. The secretariat of the competition is scheduled to announce the selected contestants by May 20, 2022.
The international jury of the live rounds of the competition, held with the support of the Hungarian government, will be chaired by Éva Marton. Hungarian and international celebrities of the opera world were again invited to be members of the prestigious panel: Miguel Lerín, one of the most influential art managers; Peter Mario Katona, casting director at the Royal Opera House in London; Anatoli Goussev, a Ukrainian-born tenor and singer living and working in Italy; Dmitry Vdovin, director of the youth opera programme at the Bolshoi Theater; Italian tenor Vittorio Terranova; Slovak tenor Peter Dvorsky; Andrea Meláth, head of the Singing Department of the Liszt Academy; and Szilveszter Ókovács, director general of the Hungarian State Opera House.

The Éva Marton International Singing Competition is attracting an ever-increasing number of talents and is gaining more and more attention abroad: 255 young singers from 47 countries applied for the latest, fourth competition, which was postponed to 2021 from the previous year due to the epidemic. In 2018, the contest was selected as a member competition by the prestigious World Federation of Music Competitions (WFIMC).
