The point is to increase gradually the level of the understanding, cultivation and practice of musical art. This task falls particularly to the new Academy.

Twenty-four competitors advance to the next round of the Éva Marton International Singing Competition

In accordance with the decision of the international jury led by Éva Marton, after the final round of the semi-finals, 10 women and 14 men, including four Korean, as well as Hungarian and Ukrainian singers, took part in the semi-finals on September 2.  

These are the singers who advanced to the semi-finals: Korean baritone Beomseok Choi, Romanian bass Gelu-Todor Dobrea, Hungarian mezzo-soprano Anna Csenge Fürjes, Australian soprano Jessica Harper, Korean soprano Sol Her, Moldavian mezzo-soprano/alto Liliana Istratii, Korean tenor Jung Jaewon, Polish tenor Piotr Kalina, Ukrainian baritone Oleksandr Kyreiev, Ukrainian soprano Iryna Kyshliaruk, Russian bass Roman Lyulkin, Kazakh baritone Azat Malik, Hungarian soprano Beáta Máthé, Hungarian soprano Ildikó Megyimórecz, Hungarian mezzo-soprano Alexandra Ruszó, Serbian soprano Sonja Šarić, Korean tenor Jihoon Son, Venezuelan countertenor Rodrigo Sosa del Pozzo, Ukrainian bass Volodymyr Tyshkov, German mezzo-soprano/alto Deniz Uzun, American baritone Ethan Vincent, Chinese tenor Chen Xu, Argentine baritone Germán Enrique Alcántara, and Ukrainian baritone / bass baritone Vladyslav Buialsky.

The two rounds of the semi-finals can be viewed free of charge on Thursday, starting at 3pm and 6pm, in the Solti Hall of the Liszt Academy, the organizer of the event. The semi-finals will also be broadcast live on the internet, in the usual high quality. The names of the competitors who make it to Saturday’s final and even closer to the coveted prizes, will be revealed late on Thursday night.

The 4th Éva Marton International Singing Competition, postponed to 2021 from last year, kicked off on Monday with sixty-six contestants, more than in any other previous competitions. Due to the still uncertain epidemic situation, some of the singers withdrew their application at the last minute. There was a record number of applicants and semi-finalists: 255 young talents from 47 countries submitted their videos, and 116 of them were invited to the live rounds of the contest by the preliminary jury chaired by Éva Marton.

Thanks to the support provided by the Hungarian government, the jury of the competition organized by the Liszt Academy is chaired by Éva Marton and its members include luminaries of the international opera life. The members of the panel are: Miguel Lerín, one of the most influential managers in European opera, Peter Mario Katona, casting director of the Royal Opera in London, opera singer Anatoli Goussev, professor at the La Scuola Musicale in Foro Buonaparte di Milano, Larisa Gergieva, artistic director of the Academy for Young Opera Singers at the Mariinsky Theatre, opera singer Dmtry Vdovin, founding artistic director of the Bolshoi Theatre Young Artists Programme, visiting professor at many renowned opera studios around the world, and from Hungary Andrea Meláth, head of the Singing Department of the Academy of Music and Szilveszter Ókovács, director general of the Hungarian State Opera.
