Weber: Der Freischütz (The Marksman) – Overture
Beethoven: Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68 (‘Pastorale’)

Liszt Academy Symphony Orchestra
Conductor: Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi

At a single stroke, Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi, winner of the 1974 Hungarian Television 1st International Conducting Competition, became a household name and audience favourite, conducting Beethoven’s Symphony in F major in Budapest at Christmas in the same year. The connection has remained unbroken ever since: between the Japanese conductor and the Hungarian classical music scene as well as the general public just as much as between Kobayashi and the great Beethoven symphonies. Tangible testimony to all these strong attachments is now provided in the form of him conducting the 6th (Pastorale) symphony. Furthermore, in a concert with which the conductor, who was long been considered our honorary compatriot and who has been awarded the Grand Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit, not only benefits the audience of the Academy of Music but also serves the artistic development of the young musicians performing in the ensemble of the university.
