The two Hungarians not only played music, they were themselves the music – in every nerve – down to their fingertips.

Adelheid von Schorn on Reményi and Liszt

Study by László Stachó in the National Geographic

11 May 2015

The study written by László Stachó, professor at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, under the title of ”The Clue to Bartók’s Performing Genius” is probably the first article in musicology to be ever published in the National Geographic magazine.

The study published in the Hungarian edition of the prestigious international magazine tackles the question relevant to all performing artists and music listeners whether the performer’s emotion-filled interpretation can be heard and analyzed from an audio recording, and how one is able to capture the magical effect that a charismatic performer’s play has on the audience. Using a natural scientific research methodology, László Stachó and Gyula Szabó M., a senior research fellow at ELTE’s Gothard Astrophysical Observatory and Multidisciplinary Research Centre, presents this theme by examining the famous 1940 live concert recording of Béla Bartók and his violinist partner József Szigeti.

Congratulations!
