Alexandra Balog (piano)

“I strongly believe that being a musician is a special blend of profound creation and the art of the moment. This is what has captivated me and serves as a continuous inspiration,” stated pianist Alexandra Balog regarding one of her projects. Her words are testament that the young artist’s love for classical music is closely linked to her desire to make it as accessible as possible to a wider audience through her art. She graduated with honors from the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2019 and has been pursuing postgraduate studies at the Kunstuniversität in Graz since 2021. Her most notable competition achievements include the first prize at the 2017 International Béla Bartók Piano Competition in Graz and the first prize at the 2022 Liszt Competition in Spain. She is a true team player: in 2020, she became one of the artistic directors of the American-Chinese Bard College program, and she also co-directs the Altalena Music Community, consisting of young artists, with Mihály Berecz. Their flagship event is the Altalena Music Festival and Summer Academy, which focuses on world-class classical music education and a carefully curated concert series that takes place concurrently with masterclasses. Openness, sensitivity, and awareness characterize this concert program as well, which draws a vast arc between the 19th and 20th centuries. Exactly ninety years passed between the premieres of Beethoven and Berg’s piano sonatas. A work by Schumann, chronologically wedged between these two, concludes the evening.
