Conductor: Ilona Dobszay-Meskó
Following his nineteenth birthday, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed five violin concertos within the span of twelve months. In his Violin Concerto No. 4 in D major, the solo instrument is assigned a prominent role compared to his earlier concert works. The solo part is characterized by melodiousness, smoothly consistent melodic arcs, and balanced rhythm. The solo will be performed by Lili Júlia Kovács, a second-year student of the Bartók Conservatoire at the institution’s summer season-closing concert. The Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music’s Bartók Béla Secondary School of Music has announced a composition contest for its students specializing in composition, with the aim of having the winning piece performed in an orchestral arrangement. The ensemble of the Bartók Conservatoire is pleased to provide a platform for the students’ compositions while also supporting the soloists of the future. Students studying voice at the institution consistently achieve success in national competitions and on television contests. On this evening, they too will take the stage alongside the orchestra. They will perform a well-known classic duet from Mozart’s opera “The Magic Flute” as well as excerpts from the two most popular operas of the French Romantic composer, Georges Bizet. The young musicians will conclude their concert with popular hits: although the name Leroy Anderson, a notable composer of 20th-century symphonic light music, may be unfamiliar to some, Hollywood also favored the composer, who, aside from his musical creations, researched Scandinavian languages.
