-;-Farkas Gábor (zongora)
“There are very many excellent pianists in Gábor Farkas’s generation but few about whom I would say that they are poets. He is one!” So said Tamás Vásáry of the Liszt and Junior Prima Prize artist. Farkas exploded onto the concert scene with his overwhelming Liszt interpretations, he has toured the world and collected shelf-fuls of top awards and prizes. Given that he took a doctorate at the Liszt Academy, Farkas unsurprisingly has a strong analytical streak, yet dramatic power and passion are equally evident in his play. The leitmotif of the programme is the series, the suite; the genre of ‘chaconne’ should also be understood this way in the Baroque, that is, it does not solely refer to the Spanish national dance. Accordingly, Händel’s ravishing G major chaconne is a series of exciting variations, even if these reinterpretations are not as daring as Liszt’s transcriptions from the opera Almira. Ferruccio Busoni’s popular and lively Bach transcription is followed by Schumann’s short movements (Papillons), which are loosely linked in musical terms. After a lyrical, near feminine detour (C major arabesque), the Schumann pieces are concluded with a further variation series (Carnival). The suite nature of the latter is far more obvious than Papillons: it tells a complete tale.
